On Tuesday 10 May, ICMI hosted it’s Sydney Speaker Showcase at the Star Event Centre.
It was an early start for our 300 guests, however, they all agree that the calibre of speakers presenting, made the early start all worthwhile.
Thank you to our event partner, The Star, who served a generous plated breakfast as well as a selection of Danish pasties, fruit, and most importantly keeping everyone’s cups topped up with coffee.
The fabulous James Mathison, TV presenter and former host of Australian Idol, hosted the morning in his naturally humorous, yet always professional style and geared the audience up for an enjoyable morning ahead.

Our first presenter of the morning was the inventor of the world’s first practical jetpack, Glenn Martin, who taught us how it’s possible to achieve impossible tasks. With his technical knowhow, entrepreneurial savvy style and New Zealand charm, Glenn was an entertaining start to the morning.
Next up, we heard from Dee Madigan, a marketing guru who regularly features on popular programs such as Gruen and Sunrise. Dee nailed why creativity matters in marketing and the reasons people make emotionally based purchasing decisions. It was fabulous to have Dee share her expertise, passion and knowledge which was so well received within the room.
We heard from world champion and Paralympian Dylan Alcott OAM who gave us an inspiring story of how he overcame adversity in order to become the best version of himself, and encouraged us all to ask how we can become the best versions of ourselves. Dylan is currently gearing up for his place in the Rio Olympics, where he plans on bagging himself another Gold medal. All the best Dylan!

Former Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer of Lonely Planet Gus Balbontin was our next speaker on stage. He shared with the audience his insight and expertise on how to embrace disruption in business in order to stay relevant in an ever-changing world of technology. Which anyone in business will tell you is very much a current challenge.

Alisa Camplin OAM took us on her journey of how she went from never skiing, to becoming Australia’s first female winter Olympic gold medallist – proof that if you are committed, prepared, and above all else, determined, you can succeed. The crowd loved her inspiring story.

Closing the morning was Sebastian Terry, the founder of the 100 Things movement. We heard how his “100 Things” list saw him travel to the ends of the earth to complete a myriad of “random acts” and on the way help numerous people achieve their dreams. Everyone in the audience was in awe with Sebastian’s journey and left the room inspired to take on their own “100 Things”.
